The Blinder Benefit

What does it mean to “run your own” race? To put the blinders on, not worry about what the other horses are doing and go for it.

When you have an idea, do you go to google and see if anyone else has thought of it?

Why is that?

If someone has done it – what does it mean?

It could generate thoughts like: Why bother? It’s already been done. What’s the point?

Why do we want to choose those thoughts when it could also mean: Someone else thought this was a good idea too! Maybe I am onto something here. Let’s keep going and see what happens.

If no one has done it – what does it mean?

It could generate thoughts like: Maybe I’m crazy to think this is worthwhile pursuing? No one else seems to think this is important so what’s the point? What will others think of me?

Why do we want to choose those thoughts when it could also mean: No one else has thought of this and shared it yet. Maybe I am onto something here.

Either way, if someone has done it or not done it, what are you learning from looking to see if others have done it?

What difference does it make to look at what others are doing?

The difference is not what others are doing, but the thoughts that you are having about it. One set of thoughts are keeping you stuck and the other set of thoughts will motivate you to continue, independent of whether it’s been done before or not.

To run your own race really means to let go of your thinking around what others are doing and create thoughts that generate motivating feelings around the work that you want to create.

If you are stuck in comparing yourself to others and resisting creating and sharing your unique contributions with the world, I invite you to connect with me via support@melissaEanders.com for a complimentary Discovery Call where you can share what is happening for you and we can see if the work that I do may serve you.
